The Ethics Core Documents Review Task Force has recommended changes to align with new membership designations and to reflect the field's future priorities. These revisions incorporate input from elected and appointed leaders across AIC. BPG leaders did not have the opportunity to meet with the Task Force prior to the release of the current draft document, but we were able to write comments on an earlier draft.

The elected officers of BPG and many members of our specialty group, particularly those in private practice and in libraries and archives, have expressed concerns about the Rationale and the new draft of the Code and Guidelines as they relate to our practices as book and paper conservators. We urge all BPG members to review Proposed Revisions to the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice (pdf) and Rationale for Changes to the AIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice (pdf).

We also invite you to a virtual listening session hosted by BPG, May 20th, 2025 at 3:00 pm EDT, highlighting the impact of these changes upon our conservation specialty group. Through this listening session, we aim to identify specific points to bring to the Task Force's attention. Our goal is to ensure that issues affecting AIC's largest specialty group are not overlooked in this process to modernize our guiding documents. Please mark your calendars for this event.
