Nicole Sheley, Director of NS International, will speak about insurance considerations cultural institutions should be aware of after disasters. Sheley will discuss the process of contacting insurance providers, and what to expect from providers during, after, and in the process of determining loss of collections. Nicole Sheley is the founder and director of adjusting and risk consulting firm NS International. She brings more than 20 years of fine arts risk management experience to the insurance industry, specializing in fine art, specie, and jewelry for the US, Lloyds and European and London Company markets. Prior to establishing NS International in 2003, Nicole worked as an independent adjuster. As Risk Manager for Sotheby’s New York, in charge of claims for their captive insurance company, she also couriered traveling exhibitions, established art handling training programs and succeeded in reducing loss. Today, her clients include galleries, private collectors, artists, shippers, conservators, brokers and underwriters. Nicole has spoken on the topic of fine art insurance, disaster recovery and preparedness, and collections management for The Smithsonian Institution’s Heritage Emergency and Response Program, The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Latin American Marine Claims Conference, among others.
